So, my new yarn came in and I’ve been sitting on it while I get into the swing of a new semester. But I think I’d like to keep doing work on this project, so let’s figure out what’s going on with this third sweater.
I’ve fixed the errors I found in the excel file from the second sweater
I’ve looked at how the second sweater fits my body relative to how big it is, so let’s consider some adjustments.
I can make a prediction of the weight of my final sweater.
Let’s do a time study?
For 1, no real content there. I just doubled down on some stitch accounting, did some napkin math to make sure everything worked out to what it’s supposed to be, and I’m feeling pretty confident that it’s going to spit out the sweater that I ask it for. Regarding 2, I think I need an adjustment or two. For 3, I’d like to do some verification of that, which means I’ll be weighing all of the yarn that I have before using it in the sweater. For 4, I want to know how much time it takes to do each of these steps so I can be budgeting my time (as a busy person…) and try to develop a basic schedule for manufacturing a sweater over 1, 2, or 3 days. Oh no, I am almost out of thread and need to buy some more. Shoot. That’s on the list now. OK. This is very stream-of-consciousness already, and I’m hungry right now because it’s almost time for dinner.
Regarding 2, I think I’m going to update the “Add” vector (which is what I’m calling it even though it’s really just a bunch of cells in an excel file but whatever) in the form [Waist, Neck, Sleeve Length, Total Length, Sleeve at Wrist, Sleeve at Shoulder] from [0, 5, 0, 3, 1, 3] to [-3, 0*, -2, 3, 1, 3] (inches). Note: *Changing neck measurement to head circumference measurement, which is the dimension I actually need to be building stuff for.
Pick a yarn color. (the hardest part??)
Gauge + mass swatch
Weigh and mark all of my cones in that color (in case I use them all?? Also it’s generally good practice.)
Get 2 Knitting I guess
Take this short survey if you’re even actually reading this!
Weigh remaining yarn, compare the difference in “used mass of yarn” with estimated value
Evaluate sweater in the same way as number 2
???
